“Transforming the LAN” this was the name of the hi-tech campaign road-show that Nortel launched worldwide. The campaign’s success in Europe echoed in the Middle East; starting with Dubai, passing through Kuwait, and ending with the biggest market in the Middle East – Saudi Arabia. The road-show was hosted in Saudi by Nortel’s official solution partner Baud Telecomm Co. (BTC Networks) which has, over their ongoing 30 years of partnership, installed millions of Nortel telephone lines and hundreds-of thousand data ports in Saudia.
Eager to catch-up with Nortel’s latest Enterprise Networks’ technologies; 500+ industry executive professionals attended and followed-up the campaign as it took place in Riyadh and Jeddah. This road-show, being one of many that Nortel delivered in Saudi during this year, marks a new and unique mission-critical Enterprise networking technology that Nortel introduces to the international markets and to the Saudi market at the same time. The new technology called “Enterprise Terabit Cluster” delivers an unequalled high available network with sub-second failover.
This technology provides carrier grade network reliability (99.999%) that find its perfect fit across the major markets where mission critical services and applications are the core of the business: Finance & Banking, Oil, Industrial companies & facilities, Healthcare, Education, Telecom Operators and Service Providers. Although the previous sectors are diverse in their activities, implementation sizes and operational environments; they still share some main common requirements namely” reliable, redundant, highly-available, Secure, distributed, and real-time core networking”.
The “Transforming the LAN” sessions showcased the Terabit Cluster Technology and demonstrated to the attending executive professionals, spanning the addressed market segments, a campus architecture that reflects their day-to-day core network challenges. It demonstrated a live network delivering real-time streaming applications between two endpoints located on two different edges of the network. The edge switches were connected with dual 10GE to the Core-cluster. This network architecture addressed all the major and new networking requirements spanning high speed 10GE links, Active-Active Link load-balancing, QoS, advanced traffic classification, role based per port security, redundancy and sub-second resiliency. The demonstrated configuration is built on a cluster of 4 Nortel core switches “Enterprise Routing Switch – ERS 8600”, delivering 2Terabits per second (2Tbps), and 2 edge stacks based on the industry’s unique 640Gbps layer 3 wiring closet switches “Enterprise Routing Switch – ERS5500” delivering gigabit-to-the-desktop (GTTD) and 10Gig uplinks to the core cluster. The edge switches connected 2 network wide endpoints PCs exchanging a real-time video flows.
The demo revealed Nortel’s 99.999% carrier grade reliability and made it available to the enterprise customers/market. Nortel “Layered Security Defense” solution was also covered with a focus on Secure Network Access, end-point security enforcement and the user-based/role security profile network wide implementation. A specific focus was also delivered on the user-friendly, centralized management tools that helps network managers in their day-to-day tasks managing the network as well as delivering to them the planning and simulation tools to help them evolve their networks.
This year “Take the Fast route to IP Telephony” and “Transforming the LAN” road shows were delivered in line with Nortel continuous commitment to the Saudi market and its dedication to accompany the Saudi enterprises and customers in their fast pace business evolution.
